Towards the integration of biodiversity in Environmental Impact Assessments of Bolivia
This book, developed within the framework of the project “German-Bolivian Partnership for Integrating Biodiversity Measures in Environmental Impact Assessments” between the Bolivian Catholic University (Environmental Engineering Department) and the Center for Development Research (ZEF) of the University of Bonn-Germany, presents a diagnostic evaluation of the degree to which biodiversity has been integrated in Bolivian EIAs applied in several economic sectors.
The first sections of this book provide a summary of the status of Bolivian biodiversity, relevant conservation and economic agendas, and current legal frameworks, in addition to a description of the history and evolution of Bolivian EIA procedures. Subsequent sections assess EIAs carried out in Bolivia between 1997-2013; these sections also contain analysis of results from workshops held in Bolivia and Germany that included the participation of scientists of both countries, policy makers, and experts working in the fields of biodiversity and EIAs. The final sections of the book present a series of technical and scientific challenges aimed at raising awareness in the scientific community for developing tools that enable a true integration of biodiversity in the management of sustainable development projects in Bolivia.
